Hive and Zapmap – A Strategic Partnership for a Smarter EV Future
The landscape of electric vehicle (EV) charging has evolved rapidly in recent years, with advancements in home chargers, public charging networks, and smart technology. The future of sustainable transport increasingly depends on convenience, technological innovation, and seamless integration between these systems. The recent strategic partnership between Hive and Zapmap represents a major step forward for the EV industry, combining the strengths of both companies to offer drivers a more streamlined and efficient charging experience. This collaboration, as highlighted in discussions with Melanie Shufflebotham from Zapmap and Tom Guy from Hive, has the potential to significantly benefit the entire EV community by simplifying charging management and promoting smarter energy use.

A Milestone in EV Charging Innovation

In the world of EVs, convenience is key. As more people make the switch to electric, companies are constantly working to provide solutions that make the transition as smooth as possible. That’s exactly what Hive and Zapmap are doing by bringing together their expertise in smart home technology and EV charging navigation. This strategic partnership aims to make managing your EV charging—from home to public—a breeze.

Here’s why this collaboration is a big deal for EV drivers like you and me:

The Top Benefits of the Hive and Zapmap Partnership:

All-in-One Charging Management: This partnership allows users to monitor and manage both home and public charging from a single app. Whether you’re at home using Hive’s smart charger or out on the road using Zapmap to find the nearest public charger, you can now manage it all in one place.

Smart Energy Usage: Hive’s smart technology will help EV drivers charge their vehicles at times when energy is cheapest, automatically scheduling charging sessions for off-peak hours. With energy prices fluctuating, this feature is a real money-saver for those of us looking to maximise efficiency.

Real-Time Charging Data: Zapmap’s detailed data on public chargers will now be integrated with Hive’s home charging solutions, giving users real-time insights into where to charge and how to optimise their charging sessions, whether at home or out in the wild.

Simplified Public Charging: No more switching between apps! Thanks to the integration, Zapmap’s extensive network of public charging points will now appear seamlessly within the Hive app, meaning fewer taps, less confusion, and more time spent driving.

Eco-Friendly Automation: Hive’s automation tools allow users to not only manage when they charge but also to monitor how green their energy source is. For those of us who care about minimising our carbon footprint, this feature is a fantastic way to ensure we’re charging sustainably.

My Chat with the Experts

As part of the announcement video, I had an audience with the Queen bee of Zapmap, Melanie Shufflebotham, co-founder and COO, and Tom Pakenham, Commercial Director of Hive. I managed to beehive myself and avoid making too many terrible Bee related dad jokes, and they gave me some fascinating insights into how this partnership will benefit EV drivers on a practical level.

Melanie explained how the collaboration would make the charging process simpler for those of us balancing both home and public charging needs. “We’ve worked hard to make Zapmap the go-to resource for public charging information,” she said. “This partnership takes that a step further by allowing EV drivers to seamlessly manage home and public charging from one place, without needing to bounce between apps.”

Tom echoed those sentiments, sharing that Hive’s smart home technology would be a perfect complement to Zapmap’s public charging database. “EV drivers need simplicity and savings,” he said. “With Hive, we’re not just making home charging easier—we’re making it smarter, more efficient, and more cost-effective. Integrating Zapmap’s data means we can now provide an even more complete charging experience.”

Why This Partnership Matters to You

If you’re like me, you’re always looking for ways to make life with an EV smoother, this partnership between Hive and Zapmap delivers exactly that, combining smart home energy management with the convenience of public charging navigation.

Let’s break it down:

1. More Control, Less Hassle
Managing your charging habits—whether at home or on the road—has never been easier. This integration puts everything you need in one place, eliminating the need for multiple apps and giving you total control over your EV charging routine.

2. Cost Savings on Charging
By utilising Hive’s smart charging technology, you can automatically schedule your home charging for the cheapest hours. That means lower energy bills, which, let’s face it, is a win for any household.

3. Sustainable Energy Use
With Hive, you’ll be able to charge your EV when renewable energy sources are at their highest output, meaning you can reduce your reliance on non-renewable energy. If you’re serious about reducing your carbon footprint (and I know many of you are), this is a fantastic way to drive even greener.

4. Better Public Charging Navigation
Zapmap’s extensive data on public charging stations will now integrate directly into the Hive app, giving you the ability to plan trips and find available chargers all in one place. Whether you’re
taking a road trip or running errands around town, public charging just got a lot simpler.

5. Long-Term Impact
This partnership isn’t just about convenience now—it’s about setting a standard for the future. As more forward thinking people adopt EVs, having a unified platform for managing all charging types will be essential. Hive and Zapmap are laying the groundwork for a future where smart, integrated EV charging is the norm.

FUTURE PROOFING YOUR WAY OF LIFE

In a nutshell or more appropriately, in a beehive, people at Everything Electric were buzzing (sorry! Repeat until funny!?) to hear all about the Hive x Zapmap partnership. It’s just the beginning of how technology will shape the EV experience going forward. It’s brilliant to see smart home and public charging solutions coming together to offer us a more efficient way of managing our EVs. Personally, I’m looking forward to testing out these features and seeing how they’ll transform the way I manage my own EV charging, both at home and when I’m out and about on our zero emission missions with my crew at Generate Media – The creative content experts!
