Goodwood Festival of Speed is back from 9 to 12 July 2026, and if you’ve walked the Hill before, you’ll know it stopped being a petrolhead-only event years ago. I’m happy to say that this year’s line-up leans heavily electric. There are global debuts, a UK brand launch, and a couple of hypercars that sound made up until you check the numbers twice. Here’s what I recommend you build your day around.
Alpine A110: the electric reinvention
Alpine is bringing the next A110 to Goodwood for its first public showing, and it’s a proper shift for the brand. You’ll see a development mule, wearing bodywork similar to the outgoing petrol car but sitting on a completely new EV platform underneath. Alpine is calling it the first “true” electric sportscar, which is a bold claim for a company with a name like theirs to protect. Worth a look either way.
Denza’s UK launch: B5, D9, BAO5 and the Z coupe
This is the official UK arrival of Denza, BYD’s premium brand, and it’s coming with a full range rather than a single flagship. The B5 SUV pairs a 1.5-litre turbo hybrid engine with a 31.8kWh battery, giving it up to 56 miles of electric-only range and a 0-62mph time of 4.8 seconds. The D9 people carrier is aimed more squarely at families, with 373 miles of range and proper seven-seat space for long trips. There’s also the BAO 5, which will be run off-road at the event, and the Z coupe, which BYD says produces more than 1,500bhp. Yes, that last figure is worth reading twice!
BYD’s own line-up: Dolphin G and Shark
BYD isn’t leaving all the attention to its sister brands. The Dolphin G DM-i is getting its first UK showing at Goodwood after debuting in Berlin earlier this summer, and it’s aimed at buyers cross-shopping cars like the Renault Clio and Toyota Yaris, with pricing tipped to start under £20,000. There’s also the Shark pick-up, making its European debut with a 435PS plug-in hybrid setup, 55 miles of electric-only range, a 0-62mph time of 5.7 seconds and a 2,500kg towing capacity. Worth noting that both of these run on plug-in hybrid systems rather than pure battery power, so if you’re after fully electric BYD metal, it’s the Denza and Yangwang stands where that lives. Attendees can also get a passenger ride in the Shark and the Denza BAO5 on BYD’s own off-road course, and there’s a live demo of its Flash Charging tech, which the brand claims can add over 220 miles of range in five minutes on its newest battery. The whole BYD Group stand covers 2,016 square metres, making it the biggest in the festival’s history.
Yangwang U9 Xtreme: the 308mph EV
Yangwang, another arm of BYD, is bringing the U9 Xtreme to Europe for the first time ever. It set a claimed top speed of 308mph last year. Whether it actually runs the Hill or just sits on display hasn’t been confirmed yet, but either way I’m sure it’ll draw a crowd. BYD as a group is putting up its biggest stand in the history of the festival this year, covering its own badge alongside Denza and Yangwang.
Renault 5 Turbo 3E, Twingo and the 4 Plein Sud
Renault has done more than most manufacturers lately to make electric cars feel fun rather than sensible. The 5 Turbo 3E, its tribute to the old Group B rally car, returns to the Hill with twin motors mounted in the rear wheels producing somewhere around 530 to 550bhp combined, plus a hydraulic handbrake for anyone who wants to make a mess of the tarmac. Alongside it, the Twingo E-Tech electric makes its UK dynamic debut, and there’s the soft-top Renault 4 E-Tech electric Plein Sud with its fabric roof.
Cupra Raval
Cupra is at Goodwood for the first time, and the Raval is its answer to the small electric car boom. It comes in four trims, Origin, V1, V2 and VZ, with battery sizes running from 37kWh up to 52kWh and power from 135PS in the base car to 225PS in the VZ, which also gets a limited-slip diff. Prices start from £23,785, with a real-world range of 185 to 280 miles depending on spec. Cupra has hinted at “several unexpected announcements” too, including two more new models that are confirmed to run the Hill on every day of the event. Definitely worth keeping an eye on this stand!
MG4 EV Urban and MGS9 PHEV
MG’s stand is more about practicality than spectacle, which makes it one to seek out if you’re shopping. The MG4 EV Urban is built for city life, while the MGS9 PHEV is MG’s first proper seven-seat SUV. It combines a 1.5-litre turbo hybrid engine with a 24.7kWh battery for 299PS combined output, around 62 miles of pure electric range, and a 0-62mph time of 9.6 seconds. At £34,210 to start, you still get a panoramic roof, power tailgate, tri-zone climate control and dual 12.3-inch screens as standard. There are also two concept cars previewing MG’s 2027 line-up.
Lexus LFA Concept
This one’s for anyone who grew up with a poster of the original LFA on their wall. Lexus is showing an all-electric concept that shares its rigid aluminium body structure with the V8-powered Toyota GR GT, but swaps the engine for a battery powertrain. It’s targeting a 0-62mph time just over 2.0 seconds and an estimated range beyond 400 miles. It won’t be running the Hill, just on static display, but it’s a proper first look at where Lexus performance is headed next.
BMW Vision M Concept
BMW is showing where the next M3 is going with the Vision M Concept, first revealed at Le Mans back in June. It previews a quad-motor electric setup, and while it stays off the Hill, it’ll sit on static display next to the M3 Touring that raced at the Nürburgring 24 Hours. BMW’s current electric range will also be there, including the i3, the refreshed 7 Series and the new iX5.
Honda Super-N
Honda’s Super-N is a compact EV that leans on the brand’s experience with kei cars, aiming for something that feels enjoyable to drive rather than just efficient. It includes a Boost Mode designed to sharpen throttle response for a little bit of extra character.
Subaru E-Outback
Subaru’s new electric E-Outback, with 375bhp on tap, takes over course car duties on the rally stage this year. Subaru has sponsored that part of the event for a few years running now. Thank you Subaru!
Formula E’s GEN4
Away from the road cars, Formula E is making its first appearance at the festival through FOS Future Lab. It’ll show all four generations of its race car and reveal the new GEN4 machine for the first time.
Before you go
Whether you’re weighing up a Cupra Raval or an MG4 EV Urban as your next family car, or you just want to stand next to a 1,500bhp Chinese coupe for the novelty of it, this year’s Goodwood shows just how far both ends of the EV market have come.
