Driving the Future: with Ellis Spiezia on Sustainable Motorsports
One of the best parts of being The Sustainable Dad is getting to meet and chat with some truly awesome people who are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the world of sustainable transport. Recently, I got the chance to chat with Ellis, a man on a mission to accelerate the transition to sustainable motorsports. 🏎️🌱 His passion for the racing world electric is infectious, and it was a conversation I couldn’t wait to share with all of you.
The Shift to Electric in Motorsports
When we think of motorsports, most of us picture roaring engines, high speeds, and the smell of fuel in the air. But Ellis is proving that electric racing can be just as exciting, if not more so, while drastically reducing the environmental impact. He’s on a mission to make sure that the future of racing is as green as it is fast.
Ellis and I recently had the chance to chat at #MOVE2024 in London with the Managing Director of Extreme E, Ali Russell. It was an exciting conversation about how motorsport is evolving to be more sustainable. Extreme E is a radical off-road racing series that takes place in some of the most remote and climate-impacted regions of the world. With eight teams, each made up of one male and one female driver, this series not only brings attention to critical global issues but also inspires the next generation to rethink the possibilities of motorsport. Ellis, as an electric racing driver himself, is at the forefront of this shift. We had a great discussion about how electric racing is leading the charge toward a greener future.
Why Pure Electric?
So why is Ellis so passionate about going fully electric? For him, it’s about much more than just cutting emissions. It’s about leading the charge (literally and figuratively) toward a future where motorsports aren’t just fast, but also sustainable. He believes that electric racing is the perfect testing ground for innovations that will eventually make everyday EVs even better.
Looking Ahead
As The Sustainable Dad, I’ve been lucky enough to drive some incredible electric cars, but what Ellis is doing takes it to the next level. He’s not just looking to replace gas-guzzling race cars with EVs—he’s helping to shape the future of the entire industry.
I’m excited to follow Ellis’ journey and see where this movement goes. It’s clear that the future of motorsports is electric, and with passionate people like Ellis at the helm, it’s going to be an exciting ride.
