London to Northampton
The E5008 gave us plenty of confidence from the start. The car predicted we would reach Northampton with around 70 percent battery remaining despite it being more than 80 miles away. Even after crawling along the M25 at a heroic 25 miles per hour, the range barely dropped. In fact, it even went up at one point thanks to some clever regeneration. You’ve got to love regeneration!
Once we arrived at my sister’s house, we plugged into a simple three pin socket. It is not fast, but it does the job and gives you a few extra miles while you enjoy jelly and ice cream and get mauled by excited children who have discovered felt tip pens.
Overnight charging and an early start
We headed to my dad’s in Northampton for the night and plugged the car in again. A three pin charge from evening to morning was enough to take us back to full. The kids woke up bright and far too cheerful at 7am so we hit the road for the big stretch north.
The car estimated we could reach Alnwick with 13 percent left, which meant we did not need any rapid charging stops at all. A rare luxury on a long EV trip.
Practicality and the seven seat layout
We had a huge amount of stuff to pack, but the E5008 handled it very well. With all seven seats up the boot is 348 litres, but a hidden lower compartment gives you bonus space. Once the seats go down you get a massive 916 litres which is absolutely ideal for busy family road trips.
We did the all important ISOFIX check which passed easily. Water bottles fit in the felt lined door bins without rattling. The cubby holes are great for glasses, snacks or walkie talkies. There is a wireless phone charger, USB C ports and a cooling drawer that even kept my prawns fresh.
Comfort, tech and driving feel
From the moment you climb in, it feels like a step up from previous Peugeot models. The ambient lighting makes night drives look amazing. The curved main display and secondary screen are easy to use and the layout feels cockpit like without being cramped.
Regen is adjustable via paddles although it is not full one pedal driving. Steering is tidy and the ride is stable even with a full family load. Mrs B gave it a strong eight out of ten at the halfway point. Jack gave it a solid seven point five before enthusiastically upgrading to ten point five. Freya went straight in with a ten. No doubts there!
Coffee stops, coast views and long distance cruising
We stopped briefly for drinks, stretched our legs and continued on. The car stayed comfortable the whole way. A few driving tips helped too.
1. Check your tyre pressure. Do not underinflate.
2. On motorways, ease off heavy regen to maintain momentum.
3. Use apps like Zapmap to plan top ups along your route.
We did not actually need a rapid stop between Northampton and Newcastle, but our bladders needed regular breaks even if the battery did not.
Arrival at Alnwick Castle
After nearly 24 hours of family travel, we rolled up to the castle with the predicted battery percentage almost spot on. The E5008 had performed brilliantly. Smooth ride. Strong efficiency. No stress. No drama. Well, not from the car anyway!
We spent the next day exploring the Harry Potter filming locations, visiting the beach and catching up with more family members. The seven seat layout proved its worth yet again by letting everyone pile in with room for beach bags and buckets.
Final thoughts
The Peugeot E5008 is a genuinely impressive family EV. It handled long motorway miles, tight packing challenges and excitable children without breaking a sweat. The range was reliable, the comfort was excellent and the clever interior storage made our lives a lot easier.
